Unbound Art Exhibition Showcases Artists at Mai-Wel

A celebration of participant creativity

Unbound is a participant-led art exhibition in Cessnock that celebrates creativity, dedication and the many different ways people express who they are.

Opened on 11 May 2026 at Mai-Wel’s site at 201 Vincent Street, the exhibition brings together the work of 19 artists from across Mai-Wel’s Social, Community and Creative Pathways programs in Maitland and Cessnock.

Each artwork on display reflects time, care and a genuine joy in the creative process. Together, the collection offers visitors a look at the breadth of talent across the programs, from bold colour and texture to thoughtful detail and deeply personal expression. Every piece tells its own story, shaped by the artist’s ideas, interests and commitment to making something meaningful.

Unbound also highlights what Social, Community and Creative Pathways can make possible. Across these programs, participants are supported to explore interests, build confidence, develop skills and connect with others through shared creative experiences. The exhibition is a powerful example of what can happen when people are given the space, encouragement and support to keep creating and growing.

Visitors can expect a warm and welcoming exhibition experience, with artworks available for purchase and more opening dates to be announced in the months ahead. The exhibition will remain on display through to September 2026. Entry is via the back of the building on Charlton Street, and the site is wheelchair accessible, making it easier for more people in the community to come along and enjoy the exhibition.

Unbound is a reminder that creativity does not fit within limits. It grows through encouragement, opportunity and the freedom to explore.
