Raven’s Accessible Artwork Now Calls Mai-Wel Edgeworth Home

Raven, a participant in Mai-Wel’s Inclusive Employment Australia program, recently gifted the Edgeworth site a painting she created specifically for the space.

The accessible art is vibrant, purposeful, and deeply personal. It is a work that stops people in their tracks.

Accessible Art Designed for Everyone

What makes the painting particularly remarkable is the intention behind every decision. Raven designed the work with accessibility at its core, using high contrast colours to support people with visual impairments and incorporating texture and Braille to create a multi-sensory experience that is accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Looking at the painting, that intention comes through clearly. A brilliant starburst of colour radiates outward across the canvas, rich with detail. Words like “hope” and “heal” are woven through the composition alongside symbols of community, identity, and connection. The pride flag sits alongside hands reaching toward one another, stars, and imagery that speaks to lived experience and the journey forward.

Raven shared that each element was thoughtfully chosen to reflect Mai-Wel’s commitment to empowerment, growth, and inclusion. The themes of hope, lived experience, and a journey toward a brighter future are not incidental. They are the whole point.

What It Means

For the Edgeworth team, receiving this gift has been genuinely moving. It is a reminder of the connection participants have with Mai-Wel and what is built together when the right support is in place.

Raven’s accessible art now hangs at our Edgeworth site, where it will be seen and felt, quite literally, by everyone who walks through the door.

Thank you, Raven. This is something truly special.
