Pacific National Collaboration Drives Operational Growth at Mai-Wel Enterprises

A new industry partnership supporting meaningful work

In 2025, Mai-Wel Enterprises commenced a new project in partnership with Pacific National, supporting a large-scale wagon restoration initiative delivered with Varley Group.

The purpose of the project is to assemble kits containing the components required to upgrade braking systems on train wagons.

This work has provided supported employees with the opportunity to contribute to a large-scale industry project while gaining practical experience in a warehouse environment.

Pacific National and Varley Group kindly invited members of our team to visit the Varley site, providing a valuable opportunity to see how their work formed part of the larger wagon construction process.

Seeing the progress onsite helped connect the day-to-day kit assembly work to the bigger outcome and reinforced the value of contributing to a high-standard industry project.

Hands-on work in a warehouse environment

Through the project, our team completed a range of tasks within a live warehouse and logistics environment. This included:

  • Picking components from stock locations
  • Sorting and counting parts
  • Assembling kits by following packing lists
  • Packaging completed kits for storage or delivery
  • Learning how to accurately complete truck checklists and carry out deliveries

These tasks provided participants with the opportunity to operate within professional warehouse standards, follow structured procedures, complete quality assurance checks, and deliver against operational timeframes.

Building transferable skills for future employment

Alongside the technical tasks, the project supported the development of transferable skills that apply across a wide range of industries. Our team strengthened their skills in:

  • Safe manual handling
  • Following workplace instructions
  • Time management
  • Teamwork and communication
  • Improving systems and procedures to support efficiency

These are the kinds of skills that help build workplace readiness and support long-term employment pathways.

Looking ahead

This project demonstrates the value of meaningful, real-world work opportunities delivered in partnership with industry. Mai-Wel welcomes opportunities to expand this style of work with additional businesses, including projects completed onsite at Mai-Wel or within partner workplaces.

Industry partnerships like this support skill development, increase workforce participation, and create mutually beneficial outcomes for both businesses and our people.

Thank you to Pacific National for partnering with Mai-Wel Enterprises and supporting inclusive employment in action.

If your organisation is looking for a partner that can deliver reliable, responsible, and purposeful work, Mai-Wel Enterprises would love to hear from you.
