Mai-Wel and voco Kirkton Park are kickstarting hospitality careers
A new collaboration providing hospitality career opportunities for participants
In an inspiring collaboration between Mai-Wel and the prestigious voco Kirkton Park Hunter Valley, participants from across our programs have taken their first steps into meaningful, permanent employment at one of the region’s most renowned hospitality venues.
This partnership not only created an entry point into the hospitality industry but also demonstrated the power of combining local support with global opportunity.
Opening the door to hospitality careers
Over two days, participants from Parents Pathways, Transition to Work, and Disability Employment Services joined workplace observation sessions at voco Kirkton Park.
These sessions gave them the chance to see first-hand what’s involved in a housekeeping role at a luxury 70-room property, and to ask questions directly of staff working in the industry.
The program began with eight candidates expressing interest. From there, six participants attended the onsite sessions, five progressed to interviews, and three were offered permanent part-time positions, each guaranteed at 20 hours per week.
Ultimately, two participants, one from Disability Employment Services and one from Transition to Work, proudly accepted the opportunity.
What this means for participants
Both successful candidates began work in July and have thrived as they settled into their new roles, celebrating achievements big and small, from learning new routines to the simple joy of payday.
They are now part of the broader IHG Hotels & Resorts network, which spans more than 6,300 hotels in over 100 countries and employs 375,000 people globally.
Employment at voco Kirkton Park offers job security, career progression and access to staff programs that include discounted travel, professional training, and personal development opportunities.
These outcomes highlight what’s possible when participants are supported with the right guidance, practical experiences, and encouragement to believe in themselves.
Partnerships that are Full of Possible
This milestone demonstrates the impact of tailored pathways that combine exposure, skills, and support. For Mai-Wel, this collaboration with voco Kirkton Park strengthens our commitment to delivering tailored employment pathways that empower individuals.
“This partnership is a shining example of what’s possible when local organisations and world-class businesses come together to create opportunity,” said Simone, Mai-Wel’s Business Development Representative.
For participants, it represents the start of something bigger – a career, a network, and a sense of belonging in one of the most dynamic industries in the world. It’s a launchpad for both professional growth and personal adventure.
