Staff Spotlight: Melissa, Lead Support Worker (NDIS – SCCP)
Meet Melissa, a dedicated Lead Support Worker in Mai-Wel’s Social, Community, and Creative Pathways (SCCP). Melissa is passionate about the impact that creative programs have on empowering people with disabilities and helping them express themselves in meaningful ways.
“The creative programs we provide give people with disabilities the chance to express themselves, show what they’re capable of, and interpret creativity in their own unique ways,” Melissa says.
One of her standout moments has been the Live & Loud event. “Seeing participants perform on stage, full of confidence and passion, is just inspiring. The atmosphere is always incredible, and it’s a highlight for everyone involved.”
For Melissa, creativity is key to empowerment: “The role of creativity is massive—it allows the people we support to feel confident and be themselves.”
She also praises the success of the Walls that Talk exhibition, which featured participants’ artwork. “It’s been a great conversation starter, and it’s so inspiring to see how proud participants are of their work.”
Melissa’s work embodies Mai-Wel’s vision of being “full of possible” and shows how creative programs can open doors for people with disabilities.
