Meet the Winner of Mai-Wel’s Youth Artwork Competition

In late 2025, Mai-Wel’s Youth Artwork Competition invited young people aged 18 to 25 from across all of our programs to share their creativity with the community.

The competition was open to participants across NDIS supports, employment services, and Mai-Wel Academy, giving everyone an equal chance to take part regardless of their background or the support they receive.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the competition has been named as artist Danica Jacinta.

The Winning Artwork

Danica Jacinta’s acrylic painting “Second Sight” is striking from the moment you see it. A greyscale world is cracked open by a burst of warm golden light, two silhouetted figures seated together in the foreground, trees reflected in still water, and new growth reaching up at the edges of the canvas.

Danica Jacinta described the piece in her own words:

“Action comes before motivation. So fight not for what you can see now, but for what you know lies behind your walls. A chance to see the world a second time. Whether that be through different opportunities, or acknowledgment of your struggles. Not all that is broken is meant to be fixed.

Danica received a voucher and certificate in recognition of the win, and “Second Sight” will be reproduced and displayed across Mai-Wel sites, where it will be seen by participants, staff, families, and visitors for years to come.

Thank You to Everyone Who Entered

To every young person who submitted an entry into the Youth Artwork Competition, thank you. Sharing creative work takes courage, and every piece submitted mattered.

Art builds confidence, creates connection, and gives people a way to express what words sometimes cannot.

Congratulations again to Danica. This is something to be genuinely proud of and celebrated!
