Mai-Wel and Witmore are Strengthening Inclusive Employment Pathways

Mai-Wel’s Singleton team members Tasha and Tegan recently visited Witmore Singleton, where they were warmly welcomed by Toni and Martin. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to connect, share ideas, and learn more about how both organisations keep participants at the centre of everything they do.

Shared goals, local knowledge and community

During the visit, the teams discussed their shared focus on supporting participants to build skills, grow confidence, and strengthen community connections.

Toni and Martin also shared local insights about the Singleton area, including key community networks that help create positive opportunities for participants.

Learning from each other

A highlight of the visit was learning more about Witmore’s social enterprises and the pathways they create for participants to gain real-world experience.

Witmore has recently opened Inclusive Eats, a catering initiative proudly run by participants. Inclusive Eats offers a range of catering platters and provides hands-on experience in hospitality, customer service, and teamwork in a supportive work environment.

Tasha and Tegan also heard about the Riverside Kiosk on John Street in Singleton. This welcoming community space is run by participants who take pride in delivering great service. Customers can order through the Bopple app, making it easy to access the menu and place orders while supporting inclusive employment.

Strengthening inclusive employment opportunities

Conversations throughout the visit also explored what employers look for in team members, the variety of roles participants can undertake, and the practical supports that help participants succeed at work.

These insights reinforced the importance of creating the right environment, encouragement, and opportunities for participants to develop their skills and work towards their goals.

The visit concluded with Toni and Martin sharing their excitement about being involved in Mai-Wel’s upcoming Singleton Open Day (more to come on this soon), continuing to strengthen the relationship between both organisations.

By connecting with other community-minded organisations and learning from each other’s approaches, Mai-Wel continues to support inclusive, participant-focused pathways that create meaningful employment opportunities and stronger communities.
