Art You Can Feel at Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre
Visiting the Sensory Exhibition at Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre
Participants from Mai-Wel’s Social, Community and Creative Pathways (SCCP) Cessnock Connect to Community group recently enjoyed an engaging and immersive visit to the Sensory Exhibition at Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre.
This experience offered more than a traditional gallery visit. The exhibition invited participants to explore art through touch, sound, and light, creating an inclusive space where everyone could engage with the artworks in ways that felt accessible and meaningful.
Experiencing art beyond sight
The Sensory Exhibition encouraged participants to interact with artworks using multiple senses, supporting different ways of experiencing and understanding creative expression. Participants spent time exploring textures, listening to sound elements, and responding to light-based installations, each at their own pace.
Seeing participants engage so openly with the exhibits was a highlight of the day. The experience sparked curiosity, conversation, and shared moments of discovery, reinforcing how powerful inclusive art spaces can be.
Connecting to community through shared experiences
Outings like this are a core part of the Connect to Community program. They are designed to support participants to explore the local region, build confidence in community settings, and share new experiences alongside peers and support staff.
These trips also help break down barriers to participation by creating opportunities for social connection, communication, and enjoyment in welcoming public spaces. Spending the day together strengthened friendships and supported participants to feel more confident engaging with their community.
A welcoming and inclusive space
We extend a sincere thank you to the team at Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre for creating such an inclusive, thoughtful, and inspiring environment. Their commitment to accessibility and community engagement ensured participants felt welcomed, supported, and encouraged to explore.
