Sharing Mai-Wel’s programs with Maitland Sunrise Rotary Club

Mai-Wel presents at Rotary Club of Maitland Sunrise

Sharing how our programs are supporting the community

In September 2025, representatives from Mai-Wel were invited to speak at the Rotary Club of Maitland Sunrise breakfast meeting, attended by more than 20 members.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share how Mai-Wel’s programs are supporting people in our region to pursue education, employment, and community participation.

Showcasing Transition to Work and Parent Pathways

Youth Support Mentor, Dylan, introduced Rotary members to Mai-Wel’s Transition to Work program, which helps young people prepare for employment by addressing real-life barriers such as mental health or housing while supporting their education and career goals.

Dylan also shared how introducing participants to Rotary’s community-first mindset could give young people valuable opportunities to build skills, networks, and a sense of purpose.

Our Disability Practice Advisor, Tracey, then presented on our Parent Pathways program. This voluntary initiative supports new parents to explore education and employment options in a holistic way, building both confidence and practical skills for future opportunities.

Together, these presentations highlighted that Mai-Wel’s impact goes beyond disability supports, reflecting the breadth of our employment programs and our community-driven approach.

A shared commitment to community

Rotary members warmly welcomed the opportunity to learn more about Mai-Wel’s work. The club also presented our team with a copy of Hunter’s River by Cecily Joan Mitchell, a book capturing Hunter Valley history.

Discussions following the meeting reflected Rotary’s long-standing connections with Maitland and Mai-Wel and explored opportunities for future collaboration. Ideas included potential participant involvement in Rotary initiatives and other ways the Mai-Wel team can get involved with Rotary.

Looking Ahead

The session was a valuable chance to connect with community leaders, share the breadth of our services, and explore new ways of working together.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Maitland Sunrise for the invitation, we look forward to building on these connections to create more opportunities for the people we support.
