PARENT PATHWAYS: Paving the Way for Parents
Since its inception in November 2024, Parent Pathways at Mai-Wel has been a beacon of support for parents and carers with children under 6, helping them build confidence and achieve their goals. One such participant, Nerrissa, shares her transformative journey with the program.
Nerrissa’s Story:
When Nerissa first joined Parent Pathways, she was a stay-at-home mum struggling to balance her desire to work and study without compromising her role as a mother. The support she received from the program was a game-changer. “Having support from people who actually understand my experience as a mum and as someone trying to find the balance between wanting to work and study without taking away from being a mum was incredible,” Nerissa explains. “Parent Pathways changed how I saw these sorts of programs. It doesn’t feel like I’m turning up to my appointments just to check a box; they really do want to help you.”
The guidance and encouragement from her mentor played a crucial role in Nerissa’s journey. “The amazing support from Parent Pathways really helped me regain confidence to re-enter the workforce after 12 months of being a stay-at-home mum. Their support reminded me that I am capable of so many things and that changing careers isn’t a setback but a step in the right direction. Knowing I could contact them any time via email for guidance was especially helpful as a busy mum who can’t always make appointments.”
Nerrissa’s favourite part of the program was the nurturing environment and the excellent facilities. “Being part of the culture at Parent Pathways has been wonderful. They foster a kind and nurturing environment with great facilities such as a play area for your little one and a computer lab for study or getting things done.”
The program exceeded Nerrissa’s expectations in every way. “I didn’t expect to be able to go back to work so soon. I also didn’t expect the program to be more than about finding work; they also help set goals for your personal life, such as making time to see friends and have me-time.”
When asked if she would recommend Parent Pathways to other parents, Nerrissa’s response was unequivocal. “I would 100% recommend Parent Pathways. They have been absolutely amazing. Whether you want to study, need help finding work, or both, they really can support you to do everything you want to do.”
Nerrissa’s story is just one example of how Parent Pathways is making a significant impact on the lives of parents and carers, helping them navigate their unique challenges and achieve their aspirations.
