Staff Spotlight: Lauren – Support Worker at SCCP

At Mai-Wel’s Social, Community, and Creative Pathways (SCCP), every day brings something new and exciting for Lauren. Over the past two years, Lauren has been a dedicated Support Worker, empowering participants to achieve their goals and enjoy meaningful experiences.

“There’s no typical day at SCCP,” Lauren laughs. “But that’s what makes it so special. I love being part of a team that’s enthusiastic, passionate, and supportive.”

Lauren’s role involves much more than daily routines—it’s about creating connections and making a difference. “One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is seeing participants happy and excited to see me, whether it’s for a joke, a chat, or support during a tough time,” she shares.

Highlights and Achievements
For Lauren, one of her most rewarding moments was supporting Chris Cottier and the Friday “Let’s Make Music” group to perform at their first Live and Loud event. “Watching their hard work pay off on stage was such a proud moment for me. Seeing them shine was unforgettable.”

Being part of participants’ journeys and helping them achieve their goals is what motivates Lauren every day. “It’s amazing to watch them grow in confidence and independence while having fun along the way,” she says.

Advice for Aspiring Support Workers
Lauren has been a Support Worker since she was just 15 years old and brings years of experience to her role. Her advice to others entering the field is simple but powerful:

  • “Get to know the person, not just the disability.”
  • “Listen and learn from the people who know the participants best.”
  • “Don’t hesitate to ask questions—it’s the best way to grow.”

Life Outside of Work
When she’s not at SCCP, Lauren enjoys catching up on sleep, spending time with family and friends, and recharging for the meaningful work she does every day.

Lauren’s dedication, compassion, and expertise make her an invaluable part of the Mai-Wel team. Thank you, Lauren, for your hard work and for making every day at SCCP #FullOfPossible!
