Mai-Wel Academy and Arise Christian College: Building Employability Skills for the Future

This Term, Mai-Wel Academy partnered with Arise Christian College to deliver a 5-week Employment Discovery School Transition Program for 20 students in Years 9–12. Designed to provide hands-on learning experiences and build essential soft skills, the program helped students prepare for life beyond school.

Students engaged in a variety of practical activities, including:

Thrive Scents

  • Learning the entire candle-making process, from production to packaging.
  • Practicing teamwork, attention to detail, and time management.

Thrive Café

  • Managing daily café operations, including food preparation, customer service, and hygiene practices.
  • Developing communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.

Mini Woollies

  • Stocking shelves, managing inventory, and handling cash in a retail environment.
  • Applying learned skills in a simulated workplace.

Mai-Wel Enterprises

  • Participating in packaging and assembly tasks.
  • Exploring job roles and applying problem-solving and organizational skills.

Students also learned about career planning, workplace safety, and employability skills through structured theory sessions.

The program concluded with a celebration where students showcased their achievements, reflected on their growth, and received certificates of participation.
