Mai-Wel Welcomes New Chief Operating Officer
Introducing Mary O’Leary, Chief Operating Officer
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mary O’Leary as our Chief Operating Officer, joining our Executive Team in October 2025.
Mary brings over 25 years of executive experience across professional services, education, and the social sector, most recently holding senior leadership roles with Maitland City Council, the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), and the Samaritans Foundation. Her diverse background spans finance, operations and community service delivery, underpinned by a strong commitment to people and purpose.
A Fellow of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), Mary holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Limerick. She has a proven record of guiding organisations through sustainable growth, business transformation, and social impact initiatives, making her an ideal fit for Mai-Wel’s next chapter.
“I’m thrilled to be part of an organisation with such a strong reputation for innovation and genuine connection with the community,” Mary said. “Mai-Wel’s mission deeply aligns with my values, and I look forward to supporting the team to continue delivering exceptional outcomes for participants and their families.”
Guiding Mai-Wel’s next chapter with experience and shared vision
Also within the Executive Team, Jenny Cappellacci has transitioned into the role of Chief Participant Officer, continuing her commitment to strengthening participant outcomes across Mai-Wel’s services.
Jenny has supported Mai-Wel since 2022, initially serving as a Non-Executive Director on the Mai-Wel Board, before moving into the role of General Manager – Corporate Services in 2024.
Mai-Wel CEO, John Cleary, said the refreshed Executive structure reflects the organisation’s commitment to quality, inclusion and collaboration.
“We’re delighted to welcome Mary to Mai-Wel and to see Jenny step into her new role,” he said. “Their combined experience brings new depth to our leadership team and positions Mai-Wel strongly for the future, ensuring we continue to deliver life-changing opportunities and positive outcomes for vulnerable people.”
Mai-Wel’s Executive Team looking forward to expanding
As Mai-Wel celebrates 65 years of service in the Hunter Region, the organisation continues to evolve and strengthen its role as a trusted leader in inclusive employment and disability support. With plans to expand into Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens later in 2025, Mai-Wel is building on a foundation of resilience, community connection and shared purpose.
These leadership appointments further strengthen Mai-Wel’s capacity for growth, innovation and social impact, reinforcing its vision of a region that is truly Full of Possible.
