Skylah’s journey to employment with Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions

Skylah came to Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions with a goal to seek employment in the cleaning industry. After some hard work and perseverance, Skylah not only successfully gained her Certificate III in Cleaning Operations, but has secured part-time employment!

Skylah told us a little bit about her journey to employment.

“Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions offered me to take part in the Cleaning Operations course and supported me to enrol and complete all the theory components.

“My course was meant to take place face-to-face in a training facility in East Maitland 2 days a week. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the course transitioned to Zoom and online. At times this was challenging but I still managed to complete the course work and assessments.

“Whenever I was feeling stuck or unsure with the course, my Case Manager were there to offer assistance. Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions were flexible with my appointment times, as they knew I was enjoying the course and would always ensure my appointments took place at different times.

“My Case Manager also assisted in helping me complete a quiz as part of one of my assessment where I needed 6 people to take part. My Case Manager shared this around the office to help me have the information I needed to complete my assessment.

“As part of the course, I was asked to complete work placement with a local cleaning company to put the skills I had learnt into a practical situation. Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions assisted me with finding suitable work and to gain my Working with Children Check, Police Check and White Card.

“My work and work trials have taken place all over, from Cessnock to Newcastle and in-between. I received valuable feedback from the employer and was even paid for the time I went there.

“I felt supported in my studies and work trials. My Case Manager would contact me either after the work trial or the next morning to make sure everything went well and was okay. This gave me time to talk about how I felt about the role or job,” said Skylah.

Through her own hard work and support from Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions, Skylah successfully completed her course and gained her Certificate III in Cleaning Operations.

“Since completing the course I have been working 2-3 shifts a week with that particular cleaning company and have also been completing some paid trials with another company as well.

“In the future I hope to find a part time cleaning role in the Cessnock location, with regular hours and build on my skills and to learn more.”

Good luck Skylah!
