Jacob’s brewing skills for work with his barista course
Meet Jacob, a job seeker who has been looking different industries and certificates to prepare for employment.
Jacob is apart of the Mai-Wel Labour Force Solutions Disability Employment Service in Cessnock. We caught up with Jacob to talk about his goals and the steps he’s been taking towards them with Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions.
“My Case Manager with Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions has been working with me to achieve my employment goal of working in hospitality,” says Jacob.
“Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions have supported me to enrol in a hospitality course with Atwea College in Cessnock. I first started this course in July 2021, but it quickly went on hold due to COVID-19. I was able to return in December and I’m now learning new skills within the hospitality industry each week on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
“My favourite part of the course so far is learning to make the coffee and adding some latte art! I really enjoy this part, as I love to draw and create.
“I was also supported by my Case Manager to take part in a trial as a kitchen hand. I liked learning in a hands-on approach and applying the skills I had learnt in the classroom.
“Once I complete my current course, I will also have my RSA and RCG, and would love to learn more about mixology.
“Until then, I hope to gain employment in this field to start my career!”
Good work Jacob!
