Erin’s gained a sweet smelling work experience opportunity

Erin joined Work Life Connect in Cessnock with a goal to prepare for the world of work. For Erin, it was important to gain a work reference and build skills that would increase her capability and confidence for open employment, particularly in the retail industry.

With a dedicated support worker by her side, Erin began the search for a local business to provide some work experience. Erin introduced herself to prospective employers and it was through this that Erin was offered a six week work experience placement at Mana Home + Bath + Body at Kurri Kurri!

During her placement at Mana Home + Bath + Body, Erin took on a number of responsibilities and built her skills in:

  • Stocking shelves
  • Stocktake
  • Labelling Products
  • Making candle products
  • Packing online orders to be posted
  • Serving customers
  • General Cleaning
  • Filing

At this time mask wearing was mandatory, but Erin did not let this hold her back! Throughout her placement Erin made sure she always wore her mask and followed the necessary hygiene protocols to keep herself and our community safe.

Erin thoroughly enjoyed her experience at Mana Home + Bath + Body, saying, “It’s so fun here, I love all the colours and smells.”

After her placement, Erin plans to continue to build her skills and confidence, and begin to look into possible employment opportunities.

Great work Erin!

Erin took part in a program that aims to support people with disability to build their skills, capacity and confidence for work after leaving school. She completed this at our lifestyle, leisure and employment support program in Cessnock called Work Life Connect. Read more about the opportunities available at Work Life Connect on our website.
