Welcome to Mindfulness Monday Activity 9 – Peaceful Place
Welcome to this week’s Mindfulness Monday activity.
Lots of the activities we have done centre around our senses. Focusing on our senses is a grounding technique. Sometimes you might feel tense or feel like your thoughts are running wild. To ground yourself or settle the nervous system, it can help to bring attention to what your body is feeling through your senses and to bring attention to the place where you are right now. You can ask: What can I see right now? What can I hear? How do I feel?
So, this week I would like to invite you to make an artwork about a place where you can notice your senses.
Gather a pen, pencils or any other art materials that you might have in your home. You can also use painting software on a device or computer to create an artwork. Find a place where you can comfortably make an artwork or write. Spend about 5 to 10 minutes sitting at this place and notice the environment around you. You might see colours or shapes and there might be movement. You might use your hands to feel the room or place or you might hear loud or gentle noises. Take notice of these things and bring them to your attention.
Can you make an artwork about the place or room that you are? Remember that there are so many possibilities and there are no wrong answers. You can use any art materials that you like. It can be a painting, sculpture, digital artwork, words or song.
If you feel any distress, bring your attention to your breath for a minute and notice air going in and out of your body.
