Welcome to Mindfulness Monday Activity 5

Hi Everybody, welcome to the next Mindfulness Monday art therapy exercise.

This week we are going to do something a little different. This week’s activity is about being mindful in bringing our attention to our senses and its also about being in nature.

There is a well-known artist, Andy Goldsworthy who creates beautiful patterns in nature to create artworks. His artworks are made of stones, colourful fallen leaves and found sticks and branches on the ground. His art will be our inspiration today.

We are going to make an artwork with nature around us. If you have a backyard, you can use fallen leaves, stones, dirt or sticks. Or, if it is safe to do so, explore a nearby neighbourhood park to find fallen leaves, stones or sticks.

Find a place at home where you can lay fallen leaves, sticks, or stones on the ground in any pattern that you like. For example, you might place the leaves in a circle, or you might make a sun pattern out of the sticks. As you do this, bring your attention to the colour of the leaves and how it feels to hold them. How does it feel to hold natural objects and place them into a pattern on the ground? Bring your attention to these things as you create your Andy Goldsworthy inspired artwork.

This artwork is one that can only be temporary, so take a photo of it or make a drawing or painting about it.

If you feel any distress, bring your attention to your breath for a minute and notice air going in and out of your body.
