Welcome to Mindfulness Monday Activity 3

Activity: Watch the sun during the early morning or late afternoon and make an artwork about what you witness.

Nature can help us feel positive and more relaxed. The patterns of the sun and moon are constant and rhythmic and can be a helpful daily reminder be present for a moment.

I’d like to invite you to watch the sun change in the sky during either the early morning or late afternoon. Or think of a memory of witnessing the early or late sun. What colours can you see and how are they changing. What can you hear? What can you smell? What are some positive sensations that you felt while witnessing the sun in the sky rise or set?

Can you make an artwork about it? Let’s take these positive sensations and feelings as inspiration for an artwork. Use anything around you, pens, pencils on paper or cardboard to paint or draw the sensations you felt while witnessing the sunset. You can also use your phone to take photos, a device to create a digital drawing or even sing about the positive sensations. Does the sunset have a rhythm?

If you feel any distress, bring your attention to your breath for a minute and notice air going in and out of your body.
