“Within my first week, my Youth Support Mentor supported me to resolve a few queries I had regarding my new employer,” says Jack, “and they introduced me to another support person from Mai-Wel who is dedicated to on-the-job support.”
Jack says finding and gaining employment with TtW was an important goal to hit.
“Now I have the opportunity to turn myself around from the place that I was in. I can set goals and gain financial security. Independence is the biggest thing for me and gaining stable employment is a great start to enable that.”
So what’s next for Jack?
”I’m aiming to get my forklift licence next so I can provide more value in my current role and to open further opportunities down the track. I’d like to pursue a long term career related to heavy vehicles and the automotive industry.”
Jack is part of MWLFS’ TtW program for young people aged 15 – 24 years who live in Maitland, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri.
