2020 has been a quiet year so far for events due to COVID-19, but this August, Mai-Wel is bringing a brand new virtual event to their online community and beyond – Move for Mai-Wel!
The concept is simple; throughout the month of August, individuals or teams of “Movers” will challenge themselves to reach their own distance goal by the final day of the month. The aim for this event is not only to challenge competitors to reach new distances and stay connected with friends and family, but to also raise funds for Mai-Wel, providing opportunity and choice for people living with a disability.
All funds raised through Move for Mai-Wel will be allocated to the upgrade and development infrastructure and recreational spaces within Mai-Wel’s homes and facilities.
Move for Mai-Wel will be a fully inclusive event – whether walking, wheeling or running, anyone can be involved! From seasoned marathon runners to self-proclaimed couch potatoes, anyone and everyone can challenge themselves by setting their own distance goal!
Mai-Wel’s CEO, Lynne Graham spoke about her excitement in bringing a virtual event to Mai-Wel’s online community.
“It was disappointing that we could not hold our Gala Ball this year, but I know that Move for Mai-Wel represents an exciting new opportunity for our supporters and online community. It facilitates a way to stay connected that is both safe and within social distancing, while also encouraging physical activity and positive community connection in a time we need it most.”
There are also a number of prizes up for grabs! In each category (teams and solo Movers), prizes will be awarded for the most funds raised as well as a prize for the furthest distance covered.
To partake in Move for Mai-Wel, registrations must be completed before 1 August 2020. To register as a team with family, friends or colleagues, or as a Solo Mover, head to the Move for Mai-Wel registration page!
