Douglas is enjoying the opportunity to get back into the community!

After three months isolating, which included ceasing his attendance at Mai-Wel’s Life FUNdamentals Cessnock, Douglas has returned to face-to-face supports! He was very excited to get back out into the community and engage with locals, of course while social distancing.

In Douglas’ first community outing he was supported to visit his favourite local businesses and enjoyed lunch at the Hotel Cessnock. Participating in his community is very important to Douglas and he enjoyed reconnecting with other community members in a fun and safe way.

Fiona, Douglas’ mother, said his outing was not only of huge benefit to him, but allowed her to return to work for first time since the COVID-19 lockdown commenced earlier in the year.

“Douglas really enjoyed his outing on Friday. He got a lot of fresh air and did a lot of walking which helped set him up for a great and relaxed weekend,” said Fiona.

It is exciting to see our participants re-engage with their community safely, not only because it provides experiences and skills that promote independence, but also because we get to see them go out and have fun!
